Default Catalytic Converter

Opinions and advice - One of my Catalytic converters just starting to go bad (making noise). Dealer prices are obscene. I live in California and I did find an afternarket Maganaflow thats universal fit. Is the quality good or bad?? Did find a shop willing to put it on.

Forgot to mention - 1997 A4 2.8L V6 non-quattro

Any adivce or opinions to my choice in this situation. What have others done.

Thanks.

You can but cat inefficiency codes will pop up. You can try O2 spacers to help decrease the frequency of the codes but they will still pop up. You can trade in your cats and use the money to pay for custom downpipes. It won’t be cheap as the flanges to connect to the cats are really hard to get to and is time consuming.

Alternatively if you are concerned about the codes, you can find someone to code the cats out of the ECU. Most likely not going to be a mainstream company as the EPA has cracked down on vendors who do tuning.
