Changing my factory stereo question
So my 1999 avant's tape deck does not work. I have the disk changer in the rear but would like to do a clean upgrade. I did a search but found outdated info.
Anyone swapped theirs out recently? What did you get? Don't need anything super high end just good head unit amp and ipod capable.
thanks,
jess

Ive installed a couple different setups in my 2000 a4 from a pioneer cd deck with ipod cable to a double DIN navigation. If yours is a pre-facelift like i expect since you didnt say 99.5 you only have room for a regular cd player or flip up DVD. When buying make sure that you have 3 sets of RCA out on the back 1front 1 rear 1 subwoofer and that it iPod compatible whether you have to buy a special cable or you just connect it to a front panel USB. I recommend Pioneer but its all up to you and how much you want to spend. The wiring harness for these cars is the same from 1996 to 2005, however your car might not have a turn-on lead comming from the factory harness so you will have to wire one from the fuse panel. good luck

Use the car finder feature at Crutchfield to find a head unit. They make everything SO easy, I am always wondering why more people don't use it/buy from them in the first place. They generally don't have the lowest prices on anything, but you're also paying for awesome customer service, free wiring adapters, included instruction manuals, etc.
