I have a 2001 1.8tq and I am going to be getting a GIAC burn. The shop is going to charge me $450 for the engine, $250 for the Tip Chip, and $110 for labor. Is this a good price? I have the cincy diode mod. Do I need to remove the diode? What about my MBC? Does that need to be set to a certain PSI or do I need to take it out completely? Thanks in advance.

 

Personally I'd pay $150 for a SpeedTuning chip, and I'd jump on the $250 tip chip (seems like those are normally a lot more than that). What labor are they talking about? Taking out the computers and reinstalling them? That's a little steep. Remove the MBC and diode - the reflash will take over control and give you the results you're after - those are likely to cause trouble.

 

$450 for GIAC chip is pretty cheap. I guess that's why they also charge the "labor fee".

When I had mine done a long time ago for the normal 91, it was around $600 out the door.
