Default Code Problem

I changed the oil & filter on my wifes 1999 A4 2.6 B5 a couple of days ago, and the trip meter is showing a In I or 1n 1 or ln l code (depending on how you want to read it).

What does it mean, and how do I get rid of it?

I've tried the usual method of key on while holdong the LHS button down under the tacho and all I manage to do is reset the clock and it has no movement when you try to pull it out, while holding the RHS button down while turning the key on has no effect.

Another thing, does any body know of a workshop manual for the 2.6 litre engine capacity A4 - all I can find is 2.8 manuals.

Thanks

If you have a 99 A4 with a 2.6, you're likely not Stateside...

Usually, manuals are available from http://www.bentleypublishers.com/

Try and contact them and ask for a Euro spec manual or where to get one.

As for the 'code' in your display, can you take a picture?

Gidday,

No, I'm down here in New Zealand so the Euro spec will probably be correct, I'll give that link a try for a manual.

Howz that?

Can you tell me - are the vavle clearences hydraulically adjusted or manual adjustment?

I'm afraid that's an OBD code of some sort. What it means, I can't tell you. It's a older Audi thing, something I don't think we've seen since the Audi 90, if at all. Likely, you'll have to stop by a main dealer to have the light reset or you can try and purchase an aftermarket code reader.

As for the valves, the last 2.6s we saw (went away with Audi 90 in 1995) all 2.8s are hydraulic lifters and do not need adjustment.
