Default Coolant Temp

I finally got my second faulty thermostat replaced and now I've noticed that the gauge reads a tad over the center mark. I checked with vagcom and my coolant reading is between 97-102°C

I thought our thermostat was a 87°? What should the temps be?

most run right at or just below the center line. A touch above shouldn't be an issue. If the thermostat opens at 87C, that doesn't mean the coolant won't run slightly hotter at the sensor...

Yeah I had a 3.5hr drive back to school this afternoon and it was right in the middle 90% of the time. It would go in-between the middle and one to the right and logging in vagcom shows that it would vary from 99-105 during those times. The rest of the time it fluctuated from 94-99. I know it isnt a big deal to run a tad warmer than center but I just dont want it to be an issue in the summer.

just wondering since you actually say the tempreture are you reading the gauge or actually measuring the coolant, if your reading the gauge then i think your reading teh oil temp. which sounds normal.

I'm watching the gague flucuate, and confirming it with my laptop and vagcom. Oil temps stay right around 200-225.
