cruise control: is there a dash indicator light ?? (i swapped modules)
Hi - so my cruise hasn't worked in years. After lots of reading about both (possible) switch issues and module failures, I decided to buy a used module off ebay that was listed as compatible for my 1998 (.5) b5 audi a4 Q 2.8. The used module was much smaller than my existing/original module, but pin out diagram and plug size looked the same, so I plugged it in. cruise works perfect with this used/smaller module
Should there be a cruise indicator on dash?: Ithink I recall that a dash indicator used to come on when cruise was engaged (with original module when it worked), but there are no lights now. I'm more that happy just to have working cruise, but am curious if there was a light and if perhaps this 'smaller module' just doesn't have the light functionality part.
I didn't write down the module numbers, but could post them up later if needed. Would appreciate feedback

Neither my '98.5 (with LCD and non-LCD clusters) nor 2001.5 have an indicator for cruise control. I can't recall having seen an input wire to the cluster from the CC module (based on wiring schematics).
For those that may be in a similar situation, I would highly recommend trying this route. I got a new/used module for super cheap on ebay.
NOTE: you can drop/tilt/lower the glove box without any tools, reach in and unplug existing module and then plug in the new one (just let it dangle for a test), and take for test drive. from opening box from mail to test drive was less than 10 minutes.
should have done it long ago.

Also if you're handy with a soldering iron you can fix the majority of them by reflowing the solder around the capacitors, terminals, and other through-hole mounted things. No need for a new one, especially since it'll also fail the same way eventually.
Exactly what fixed the CC in my '98.5. Went through all of the diagnostics with the stalk switch and checking components in the engine bay, only for it to be this easy of a fix. It was just too bad I did it a couple months after a 2,000 mile road trip!
