Emissions! Help!!!
Ok, the deal is I have a B5 A4 1.8TQM, and I have emissions to take soon. I am not sure how the whole process works for an OBDII car? Besides that, I have a HFC that is throwing me a CEL (for obvious reasons). I don't know if I will still pass or not, and if not what can I do to fix this problem? My friend suggested that I bring my laptop with me and VAG-COM the code out for the test, but I don't know how full proof that plan really is.
Please help me, I need to how if I will pass, or how i can pass!
Thanks

they most likely won't test your car under load, since its AWD. so they'll only scan for codes. if you clear the code you should pass, but you might want to do the non fouler mod as well for extra insurance.
you shouldn't be throwing a code w/ a hfc tho. maybe your o2 sensor has gone bad

In NJ they just test OBDII cars with a scanner so when I bought my car with no codes I thought that I was golden. Then I went to emissions and they told me that they cant plug my car in so they rev the engine to a certain RPM and measure the emissions out the tailpipe. It passed but I got worried, I don't know all the years that are tested this way.
+1 Chaos, I'm in DC and the AWD prevented the shop from doing the standard test for emissions. The way I understand it, normally they strap your car into this chassis dyno-looking set up. Stick a couple hoses over the tail pipe, and then rev it to check your emissions.
I was throwing a EGR code, cleared if before the inspection, and passed fine. I think that should work just fine for you. GL!
Non-fouler DIY is here:

Where are you at? In Colorado the emissions testing facilities have AWD rollers and they get the car to hwy speed on there.. I had CEL and still passed the testing. A hfc should still be ok in tests as it still a cat, however if you're running a test pipe then you'll probably want to put your cat back in prior to testing.
I live in WA, and I haven't gone through emissions before (obviously). I hope that I can just clear the codes before I go, and that will do it. I will check out the non fouler mod too, to see how that all works.
Thanks a bunch!! Anymore suggestions are very welcome. X)
