Thanks sine. My bad! Still though you'd need the ecu, main harness, and I'm still very confident that things like abs pump, etc. would not connect to the AHA main harness.

If 99 AHA uses SAI, does the 98 AHA as well? I would find that hard to believe.

I was under the impression that SAI was eliminated in 2000+, not introduced?

SAI was introduced to 1.8T in 00+ (maybe some 99's, and apparently to the 2.8 even sooner), and is still used as far as I know. EGR is so 10 years ago. Some people call the combi valve used with SAI an EGR valve. The reason EGR was fired is because exhaust gas clogs the system with carbon, and is a mess of vac lines and plumbing. Now they use a pump that uses fresh air and basicaly one hose. No chance for carbon build up.

Yeah, now the system sucks for different reasons :\.

In the near future, I'm going to pull my SAP and replace the rivets that hold it together...something that the VW guys do to eliminate the jet engine sound on cold starts and P0411 code. In the year and a half that I've had the Avant, that's the only code I've ever gotten and it would sure be nice to get rid of it. I'd happily yank the whole system if I didn't mind that code, which, apparently cannot be removed with resistors, but only by reprogramming the ECU.

Sorry for the thread-jack.

If you take appart your sap then take pics. You can replace the bearing in it that goes bad too.

Everybody I asked told me the job is going to be a pain in the a.. The engine cost me $1000 with everything, if it is not the one I just returned it. And my other engine, only the heads are 650 or more. I am 100% sure I bent plenty of valves. I was driving well over 70 mph. Plus I have to replace not just the timing belt but all pulleys with tensioner. Where can I get the ECU.

Default Engine Replacement

I just finished replacing the engine and every works fine except for the temperature sensor. They were not the same on both engines. The only difference between the engines is a couple of sensors and thats it.
