Front axle replacement...
99.5 1.8tq manual
so uhh about 2 months ago i noticed both front outer boots were torn...i ordered the kit quickly but everytime i had enough free time on the weekend, something would come up....
i figured by now i just need to replace the axles
anyways...i go to autozone today and all theycan get areaxles for an automatic transmission....the guy working there says hes done it before and they are interchangeable....im calling shenanigans but ordered them anyways since its going to be like a week before they come in.......if they dont fit I can just take them back....anyone able to shed some light on the situation? thanks..

Look them up on AutoZone's website for your model with an auto trans, and for one with a manual trans, and see if they're different part numbers. Hopefully you'll have more luck with them than I did with Advance Auto Parts. I ordered a pair of axles from them, and was told five days after they were supposed to arrive (once I called them, instead of them alerting me) that one axle was ready to ship, but they couldn't source the other.
If I remember right, AutoZone gets around $130 per axle. ECS Tuning and PureMS get about the same and they're known Audi/VW tuners. You might want to talk to them instead.

i checked the website and they dont even have the manual axle listed......
i was thinking about going ECS but i figured there was going to be a core charge with autozone....(or advance, wherever i went)....so iw as trying to save some money...then come to find out there wasnt a core charge unless they order a remanufactured one.....so i was already there and just ordered them....
ha yea i hope they get here on time...the guy said they were coming from mobile and should be here tomorrow..then he told me to call friday? hm ok..whatever man...
thanks

What exact site was it? I need to order mine too. Was it www.autopartswarehouse.com? Or something else?
BTW, I went on the ECS website and you can see from the pictures that they're physically different - the automatic axles have a splined end that goes into the differential, but the manual axles do not, and the part numbers are different. Order specific manual axles or they won't work.
