Default gas gauge randomly empty.

the other day i filled the car up...never had a problem. got in it. started it gauge went to full like its supposed to. next time i look at it, its at empty. i watch it. it shoots from empty to full (or to the level of gas in the tank) randomly. im thinking the gauge is probably ok considering its reading. what about whatever is in the tank to read it? could it have gone bad? has this ever happened to anyone else.

he doesnt show it on the picture, but most likely this one little wire broke in half and needs to be replaced. thats what happened to mine, it would work for half of the tank but then it would just drop to empty. i would recommend replacing the wire rather than getting a new sending unit for over $100.

^^^exactly. Fix the wire and clean the resistor that the wiper contacts and you're about 99% sure to fix it.

just make sure that there isnt much gas in your fuel tank because you obviously dont want to get all wet ;p it should be a 20 minute job even if you take your time on it.
