Default Headlight Switch Stuck On

I went out driving last night and was able to turn my lights off and on normally. Though, today, when I drove to my parent's house (about 2.5 hours away) when i arrived the switch/stick thing is stuck in the on position.

I have removed the 4 fuses for the headlights to avoid killing my battery before i figure this out. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.

thanks,

John Chase

If you mean the switch moves but the lights stay on, it sounds like it is shorted internally. But the car is designed so that with the key off, only the parking lights function. It sounds like the plastic sliders have melted down and the contact bars they carry are shorting across a constant power contact pad inside the switch body. You'll likely need a replacement switch. They run about $158 new or you can buy one from a part-out car for less. Look on www.audiworld.com for a procedure on doing it, but know ahead of time you'll be removing and handling the airbag.

The switch doesn't move. I CAN move it, but it feels like it will snap off if i try to move it (by cranking on it). Yeah, only the parking lights were on when the car was off, but the instrument cluster was still on as well.

I have set up an appointment with an Audi dealer on Monday, though, i would like to fix this myself and avoid any fees. If you have any other suggestions, that would be great. Also, I just had the switch replaced about 6 months ago.

You have two options - change it yourself or have the dealer do it. You can do it easily enough. Go to audiworld.com and check the tech section for a step by step on hiw to do it.
