The adjustment **** is located here.

I used a hex wrench of the appropriate size to adjust them up. I can't remember if it's clockwise or counterclockwise for up but it's pretty self explanatory when you aim your lights at a wall and start turning in either direction. Be careful when you crank them. If you feel any resistance what so ever, stop immediately!!! Don't even try to go a 1/4 turn further. You will end up snapping the adjustment bolt and your head light will flop down inside the housing. Ask me how I know. I had to repair mine after I went a little too far.

If your 2001 is like my 2001, the headlights won't adjust far enough up even when they are maxed out and it will irk you. Maxed out, my headlights only shot 30 feet in front. My repair job actually made it so I could aim them properly but you don't want to go that route.

Here is a link on how to adjust them properly.

Once you've adjusted them, you will need to VAG-COM the headlight module for it to learn the new position or it will throw a code. Follow the instructions posted earlier at this link

Post up any specific questions. Good luck.

Doug

Did anyone happen to notice this was a 2 year old thread, and some random dude just piped in about auto leveling?

Doug: Great info for the next guy who just might search instead of starting a new thread, but I doubt the OP is having the same problem anymore.

Wow.

Anyway, Doug is correct. I knew you had to use the VAG-COM for some kind of adjustment, but when I went into the Xenon section of the tests I could never figure it out. I have a Ross-Tech VAG-COM so I will test that out. As an update I never adjusted them. I've just come to live with that the old stock Xenon just suck.
