Default HELP: Instrument cluster and Fuel Gauge With Pic!

Hey guys, More questions again!

A4 2000 1.8t quattro.

1: My instrument cluster display is showing lines, Any fix out there?

2: And my fuel gauge is reading zero on full tank! I bought a new fuel level sending unit but i have yet to swap it out (tank is full of gas), will a new unit fix the fuel gauge?

The sending unit should be easy since you have a access panel in the back of the trunk behind the rear seat. Won't matter if the tanks full or not just keep some rags around so you don't get the inside of your car stinking like gas. As for the lines that happens to pretty much all of them and some have replaced the screens some have fixed wires that couldn't take the heat but there is no easy fix it all for all of them.

Thanks for the help, I opened the access point in the trunk but the amount of gas was overwhelming!

Has anyone one created a DIY for the Cluster display fix? Or has anyone done it them selves that could give me some advice?

I don't think so. Like I said I don't think there is any one way to fix them all. Most people replace the whole thing. Someone was selling the LCD w/ wiring once that would definitely fix it but the price may not be worth it and I can't remember who it is. Someone prove me wrong if there is a DIY.

for the cluster, it most likely needs to be replaced or if you take it out and you see broken wires, solder in new ones that are slightly larger gauged.

the level sending unit is an easy fix. if you have soldering tools, i'd return the new one. it's one wire that sends the signal to the gauge and it's probably broken. just replace it with the same gauge wire and you'll be fine. wait until you only have 50 miles left on the tank. you just reach down there and you'll feel thing thing sticking up. as you can see on the new one there's a clip at the bottom, just push, pull up and it'll come out

before you open your gas tank, park your car outside and open all the doors, trunk, and roll the windows down. disconnect the - battery cable. you can put a box fan in the trunk to blow fresh air thru the car so you dont die from fumes. oh and dont lite up a cigarette.

Yes. Cluster swap is really something that you should go to the dealer to reprogram. Improper programming can give you hell, especially when it comes to potential mileage discrepancies.
