Default Help....LPG conversion info..

Hello,

I live in Australia and would like to convert my 1998 Audi A6 2.8L to direct injected LPG with a donut tank fitted in place of the spare wheel. I have done a lot of research for the last 6 months and tried to get someone to do it for me but I have failed. There is no one that is confident to do this conversion as luxury cars are not really converted to LPG here in Australia, however one man experienced in this field is willing to do the job provided I get some information.

I would highly appreciate it if you guys could give me some details of the conversion you may have such as what type of parts are required, any wiring or drilling diagrams of how and where the LPG components go.

cheers

LPG is "liquified petroleum gas"...i dont know if your being smart by asking me that but ill just assume not....may be you guys call it something else....

yes i know this is the A4 fourm however some models share the same 2.8L engine, and there are alot more A4 so my chances of getting a reply for my question is alot higher here.....

basically all im asking for is:

1. Diagrams or any info on where to drill holes or were certain components go for the system to make it easier for the installer

2. What are the components which are required, as in australia the conversion specialist buy kits for certain cars....these kits have everything that is needed and parts which will fit correctly into the desired car...however as an audi is not a norm car to do this conversion tooi need to find out what exactly is needed to save the hassle of a trial and error...

cheers...

I think he wants run propane instead of gasoline and if thats correct than it has been done ive seen audis in europe run on propane because of the big diffrence in price between gasoline and propane. But its a rare thing to come across in north america especially in an audi.

and i thought australia was behind, lol.....no offense but everyone here has known about running a car on gas for the last 20 years, its just that audi isnt a common car to do it on as its a luxury car, most people have the money to pay for petrol whatever price it is..

so can anyone help me please?

Don't worry, us Canadians know what lpg is. I was in on this discussion (different vehicle) on another forum. The interested individual was looking at doing the same thing. He is in Europe. That is where you should look for info as they seem to be ahead of everyone else. I don't think that you can put a tank or any fittings-lines in the body of the car either legally or safely, there is too much chance of a leak ending up in the car and causing a very large explosion. I have the same engine, with 10.6:1 compression it would be a good conversion. I would be very surprised if you found a kit, but if you do I would be very interested in the cost and how well it functions. Enjoy, B.

Im from canada too but its not that we are behind there wasnt ever really a need to convert to lpg since gas prices werent so high a few years back. I live in Toronto and the majority of lpg cars are those airport "limos" and taxis. Plus from wut i have heard you will lose quite a bit of power and the conversions arent really cheap and some people just dont drive enough to have the money they spent on a conversion come back to them in savings anytime soon. As for the original question i searched up on it and cant find a specific kit for 2.8 or anyaudi engine most of them are universal kits. Heres a few links that might help
http://www.technocarb.com/
http://www.autopropane.com/
http://www.gotpropane.com/
Like beem said ur probably gonna find more info on european forums or websites.

Not long ago it did take a long time to pay a system off, now it would be quicker with these prices. As soon as something is close to a better deal the "gods" like up the taxes which is what happened years ago. An engine will lose power if the compression ratio is not brought up high enough to make use of the 110 octane rating of lpg. The 2.8 at 10.6:1 is still not high enough so would probably loose a little power. Sounds interesting, though. B.

Have a gander at www.gascarco.com/gallery there your'll find loads of photos of arun autogas conversions -

Look in the car autogas conversion album and you'll find examples of an audi bi-turbo lpg conversion, a 1.8Turbo on lpg, an audi tt 3.2 autogas conversion, several V8 audi's with lpg installation and a personal favourite the W8 engine, W stands for wow. Details of LPG systems for VAG FSI engines can be found at http://www.arunautogas.co.uk/lpg_and...on_engines.htm

Where the owners are saving over 60 pence a litre each time they fill up. In fact most lpg vehicles are 31% cheaper to run on gas than the equivalant diesel..
They don't miss out on performance and they can chuckle when they go past a forecourt price sign..

If you currently spend £70 a week on fuel you'll save £1550 a year with an lpg autogas conversion. A four cylinder 1.8T will cost a litte more at £1940 inc vat. So if your spending £85 a week then £1989 can be expected to be saved if the price of petrol or diesel never ever goes up again....

And your doing your bit to improve local air quality.
