Default Help ordering DEPO's, which ones?

I want to order DEPO headlights (chrome, not the smoked ones) and am having trouble identifying which ones are legit and which are knock offs that will be pieces of ****...

Here are a couple eBay links of ones I am looking at, all seem to be around $230 shipped,

00 02 Audi S4 B5 Euro Chrome Housing for Stock HID Model D2S Ellipsoid Headlamps | eBay

99 01 Audi A4 00 02 S4 B5 Euro Ecode Chrome Clear Signals Projector Headlights | eBay

One is H7, the other is D2S, does it matter which one I get? As I am going to be purchasing an aftermarket HID kit anyways, I was just reading a thread on audizine talking about the differences and people are saying the D2S will project light better and actually has a different shaped projector than the H7 ecodes...

Will I run into any issues installing the D2S ecodes over the H7's? My car is a pre-facelift with two piece headlights if anyone is wondering.

My original question though, are these ECODE's on ebay made by DEPO / REVi MotorWerks legit? Just wondering if these are the right ones before I order them and they turn out to be crap.

Thanks for your help!

EDIT**

Anyone dealt with the clear corner lights from eBay? ($16...)

Are the D2S going to take any further modification beyond what the H7's would?

99 01 Audi A4 00 02 S4 B5 Euro Ecode Chrome Clear Signals Projector Headlights | eBay

These are the ones that look the most like real Valeo E-Codes.

The H7 and D2S versions are both made by DEPO / REVi MotorWerks, just wondering if the D2S version would require further modification to stock wiring or anything, as compared to the H7 DEPO's? As far as I know I need to purchase a wiring harness to go from two-piece to one-piece.

And if these are the same DEPO's I see a lot of other B5'ers put on and not some cheap knock offs, are the eBay ones the same as the ones ECS sells?

What meh said.

Seeing as facelift B5s which have D2S bulbs stock have the D connector wiring harness, I don't think there is any difference in modifying the wiring. It'll have to be done anyways.

The harness you'll need is like this: Home Page > Search > European Wiring Harness > ES#86 A4 European Headlight Wiring Harness - A4UROWIRINGKIT-A

You can find these through a part-out on the zine classifieds or vortex classifieds or a local junk yard. I paid $20 for a pair, shipped. You'll want to solder the wires and use heatshrink tubing to cover it up.

I bought the same headlights meh stated, actually from the same seller. The cutoff isn't as clean as the Valeo Xenon D2S housings, but you're paying half the price. ECS sells both Valeos (best product), and Depos. I think their Depos are the same as the eBay ones, both which seem to be knock offs of Valeos. Depos aren't 100%, but they won't look cheesy on your car either. Most B5 forum members with ecodes have the eBay ones meh mentioned. Sometimes the seals on the housings isn't good and they cloud up due to moisture, requiring you to unseal and reseal them, but many people haven't found that to be a problem.

I also have the clear side markers. Removing the amber ones was difficult without breaking the plastic tab, but there is really nothing to it. It's just a plastic holder that an amber bulb slides into. The eBay ad says B6, which is obviously a typo, so long as the picture is accurate. They definitely add to the clear cornered look and I highly recommend them.

If you have stock HIDs get the D2S, if you don't get the H7s. The only difference in the lights you posted are what bulb they take.

Thanks for the replies I appreciate them!

As for the DEPO's, seems no one really has experience with the D2S version, I was just curious mainly because I have read the D2S DEPO's possibly have different projectors which would create a better cut-off pattern (similar to the cut-off of OEM valeo projectors) than the H7 DEPO's. They also have space underneath the headlight to mount ballasts, it is unknown to me if aftermarket ballasts would fit in this pre-made space though.

Just to be safe I'll probably just get the H7 DEPO's.

As for the re-wiring that needs to be done with this mod, I am under the impression I can either purchase the wiring harness from ECS Home Page > Search > European Wiring Harness > ES#86 A4 European Headlight Wiring Harness - A4UROWIRINGKIT-A

Or cut the harness off of a facelift B5 and splice it to my stock harness? I am a little confused, is the ECS harness the same thing as the stock harness on facelift models?

The eBay Depo's listed there do have space beneath the housings for ballasts. There is no hole cut for sending wires through though and there's no "cover" for it. You would have to cut the hole yourself and make some sort of cover. You can use a CD case lid and a sealant to do it. However, if you are going to use 55w HIDs, you may end up needing a wiring harness. I did. In that case, you would not want to mount them underneath/enclosed.

Yes, the ECS harness is the same thing as the stock harness on a facelift model. The stock harness I got from a part out also had wires for the city lights/fogs, if I remember correctly. I can't remember the wire layout, but they are the same shape/fitment/harness.

Since I would not be going back to the 2-piece setup, I cut off the old harness and soldered the new harness on, with heatshrink tubing over it to look nice and protect it.

If you're coming from the round harness, not the D shaped, was your fender ever cut for fitment or do your current headlights fit around the extra metal on the fender?

My fenders are stock I assume with the two piece headlights, not sure which connector I have, haven't looked yet... All I need is the depo's, wiring harness from ecs or a facelift model, and the hid kit and I'm good to go right? Besides modifying the fenders of course...

I think I'll just go with the H7 depo's because no one else seems to have tried the D2S ones, I just read they may project light better on a thread on audizine. Not really a lot of info on them though.

Would the D2S require the same wiring harness as the H7? I'm just curious if installation would be exactly the same as the H7 depo's. Or different in any way?

Appreciate the replies. I know my questions seem stupid...

Facelift B5s with Xenon Valeo housings have the D-connector "harness." They use D2S bulbs. The same D-connector "harness" is used on the H7 Depos you're looking at on eBay. I think install would be the same, but I'm not sure as I don't own and haven't messed with Valeo D2S housings.

I did this exact same thing over the summer of 2011:
-Fender trim (slowly, you don't want to buy a new fender)
-Depos from the same vendor on eBay with the same exact ad
-wiring harness from a part out that looks like the ECS ones
-55w HID kit from DDM Tuning (if I were to do it again I would have bought from krautoparts.com in a heartbeat)

-A while later I bought and installed the clear side markers
-Also installed 99.5+ facelift tails

If you do go through with this and order HIDs, make sure you plug everything up to check that it works properly with the light stalk at the steering wheel before doing anything else to your headlights. Do this in case you need a wiring harness and need to wire things differently for a 55w kit. The 35w kits shouldn't need that.

---------

I have no idea about the error delete for Xenon D2S housings, sorry
