Default Hooked up the batt with ignition on...

I replaced the tranny on my 2.8L and after everything was all together I forgot to check the ignition position before I hooked up the battery (when I hooked it up the key was turned). After doing so I got a battery, oil, and temp light and the car will not start.

I disconnected the battery turned the key back and then hooked it up the way I should have... The lights are still there.

Obviously I can't drive the car so it would be difficult to read the codes. Is there any way to reset without Vag-Com?

if you didnt blow several fuses or fry the ECU, which you likely could have, turn everything off and disconnect the battery again for half an hour. then hook the battery up and turn the ignition to the on position for a few minutes. then start the car. if that doesnt work, you fried the ECU. if the check engine light does not come on when the key is on but the engine is off, it is likely that.

I need a remanufactured tranny as well. What was wrong with yours? Did you get a "low miles", new or remanufactured?
Mine makes a "gear missing" winding noise but only in 1st. I've read many posts that this is common on our B8 manual. I even saw a post from a guys (don't remember where) who took his apart and found the chipped tooth gear and replaced it.

I'm in the middle of a heater core replacement and there is no way I'm digging into the tranny. Heater core is pushing it to the envelope for my technical ability.

The dealer seems to charge about 4300 to 4600. I found a place that does only Automatics but no manuals and not sure if I would trust it?

@2fast4u66: Thanks for the comment, I think

Still would love to know what/where the tranny came from. Does anyone else have suggestions on where to get a remanufactured tranny or is a "low miles" used one the norm for a replacement...

Do you have an auto or a manual?

My guess is your either not in park all the way or the clutch isn't being pushed all the way in, ie a linkage thing. either way I need more info.

Care to explain how this is posable? maybe I missed something , but hooking up a battery while the key is on will in no way fry your ECU. I must have missed something...????

^^ Thats what I was thinking, maybe just a missed wire on the starter if all the lights function properly?
