Default How much to get wheel bearing replaced?

My 99.5 A4 1.8T Quattro has been making a lot of noise from the rear passenger side, it gets louder as I go faster and by turning to the right, (thus taking weight off of that side) the noise gets a lot quieter, so I'm pretty sure the wheel bearing is shot. I'm wondering what it usually costs to get this fixed and if its a feasible DIY, my mechanic friend said something about probably having to get the bearing "pressed in" or something like that. Any other tips, too?

If you DIY around $70ish. $35/40 for the bearing and 30 to have it pressed. It's fairly simple I was just looking at doing mine. Once you get to the point of needing it pressed just take it to a local place and have them do it for ya real fast.

Yep, what he said. Press labor cost me $28 at Goodyear.

Not to be rude. On my car around 30 mph I get a high pitched sound from my drivers side rear tire. last about 3 seconds then goes away, would that be wheel bearing.

A few ?'s:

-How long did it take for you to do the work and were you doing both rears or just one side? I work about 50-60 hours/week and have other stuff going on in my off time, so if its too labor intensive, I'll just have to get someone to do it for me.

-Is there a web page or something somewhere that tells you how to do it, or is it pretty self-explanatory?

-This may be a dumb question, but when you took it to Goodyear to get it pressed, did you just call them up and say "hey I need a bearing pressed"? Just wondering what to ask when I call around. I'll have to ask at work, too (I work at a Chevy dealer, I suppose they could press it for me)
