Default Hunting on tick over.. 1.8 model.

Hi there, On my audi i have got a hunting when the car is idling. Car has been stood since january n has since been started from september time but not been given a proper run our due to no tax or test. Had an emissions test at work and the fast idle test it failed on so did a full emissions test then overall passed but as i say its let down by the idle hunting. Could you please help me, any help is much appreciated.

I'm not sure if I completely understand what you're asking, but you have a ticking sound you can't find? First thing to check would be your oil level. Our cars tick when the oil is getting low.

No, there is no ticking noise, what i mean is that the revs are not steady, they are up and down all the time and because car is not legalised i am unable to give the car a good blast which it probably needs.

This isn't a diesel where you romp it to get all the crap out...I would first check your maf and do an oil change. If oil sits for a long period of time, itll start to get nasty and not be efficient.
