Default instrument cluster replacement

...so I searched and found nothing, maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot, but here we go. When I go to replace my instrument cluster (01 A4 2.8Q), do I need to program it with a VAGCOM, or can I just replace it? Both were manuals, and I don't give a rat's *** if my mileage is off. What necessitates the VAGCOM? Also, if any of you can tell me about how long I can expect the stock sport suspension to last, I would appreciate it.

just take the old one out and put the new one in no big deal. The suspension as in the shocks should last you 70 to 100k coil springs should last you the life of the car unless they brake ball joints I would say 70to80k control arm bushings depends on the use of the vehicle.

You CAN replace a cluster with the VAG COM, but you have to have the special codes to burn in the mileage and code the unit. There is a specific sequence in which you have to do this, so if you don't know what your doing, DO NOT ATTEMPT IT!!!!
