Default Is The Intake Snorkel Necessary?

Hey people,

I'm curious whether or not I can run without an intake snorkel?
I have an aftermarket heat shield which looks awsom and the snorkel simply likes like crap with the heat shield. I know the snorkel takes in cold air but how much of a difference would their be without one?

Zero difference. You're sucking up hot air with or without a snorkel, with or without the heat shield.

Ill leave it like this so some cold air makes its way, ignore the boost gauge line, I will clean that up.

The "cold" air mixes with ambient underhood (read: hot) air, then gets superheated by the turbocharger that is compressing it inside a multi-hundred-degree metal housing. The snorkel trying to funnel in outside air will do zip-point-**** for cooling the intake charge and increasing its oxygen density. A better, more-efficient bar/plate style intercooler and a water/meth injection system will do FAR more to fend off detonation and allow higher/safer boost-timing combinations.
