Jumped Timing
A while back I posted about my 99 A4 not starting, well, turns out the timing belt lost like 6-8" of teeth on the belt, so it wouldn't start. Great.
Well I got the kit from MJM to replace belts, water pump, etc.,, cleaned up the engine and changed it out. Then went to do the compression test and the Gauge didn't even move. Now, I might not be the smartest guys when it comes to this, but if the car is supposed to have been 140 and 190, and I get 0, something just ain't right, either the gauge is broke or the head is completely screwed up.
So I'm looking at my options right now, rebuild the head or just buy a parts car for the engine (found a 99 Passat with the AEB 1.8T in it that has 96k miles on it) and just swap out the engine (after changing the belts and water pump)
Going to try another Compression tester to make sure, is there anything else I need to look at?

Well it sounds like your pretty good with tools so I would rebuild the head. Unless you know of the other engine who the heck knows what could be wrong with it. Turbo or other stuff. I guess though it would all depend on how much the other parts car would be and the benefits of the extra parts you could use in the long run. I just think dropping an engine and going through the extra work might be less of an option. Just my opinion though
It nearly always bends valves when your TB goes out. Sometimes it can even crack pistons. Your going to have to pull the head and examine. The very least the head will need rebuilt.
Looks like I already mentioned the valves thing here https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...87&postcount=2 I could have been a bit more specific but its usually a given that if you hit the valves on the piston there bent.

if you jumped more then 1 tooth you bent valves. pull the head off and hope thats all that broke. if the scoring on the pistons isnt terrible you can sand them as smooth as you can to get rid of any sharp pieces that could cause detonation and they should be fine. post up a pic if you are unsure if the pistons are ok. at the very least you will have to have the head re-valved.
