Default keep blowing mafs...why?

On my 3rd maf sensor in 9 months and blew it this evening about 1 hour ago on my way home from work.
Each time it happens, its been on the highway going wot while merging. it only happens then for some stupid reason, never happens when going for some fun runs on the strip.
I have the pes T28 kit with supporting mods, with an hks air filter and vr6 maf sensor houseing.
I know its the maf as when i pull over to the side of the highway and unplug the ****** it starts and runs properly. its not fun when the engine shuts down while going wot and get thrown into the steering wheel.

not sure if anyone makes one for the ATW, plus no money for one as I would have to swap injectors aswell. doing some research I have found that the evo and suby guys had issues with the hks drop in filters ******* up their mafs. someone also mentioned the wiring on the maf sensor could be pulled out or damaged.

HKS as in the foam/ sponge-type filter? I have heard poor things about those. Something else to condsider - are you buying the same maf everyttime? Like a reman. one from the same seller?

ya, its the hks foam sponge-type filter. I heard good things about them at the track so I picked it up.. and they are brand new mafs from the audi dealership (i get 25% off all parts at my dealer) no remanufactured ones but they are all from the same seller.

Do those filters get oiled? Maybe at wot w/bt, these filters are more suseptable to getting oil drawn through them and onto the maf. If it does get oiled, have you ever tried cleaning the mafs?

nope, that was another reason on why I picked them up. They are dry filters. I just cleaned the maf about half hour ago, it runs fine but it will fail soon (running rough but not stalling like befor). the other 2 would not work after cleaning. I gotta find the procedure on how to test the maf wiring to make sure I don't have any shorts in the system at least then I can narrow down the cause.
