Update - So since I don't have any good place to work on my car at my new apartment, I brought the car to get diagnosed. Was told the timing belt is chewed up and water pump also needs to be replaced.
Was given an estimate of $1100....
Is that reasonable? Keep in mind prices are generally a little higher than normal in my town...

$1100 doesn't sound too out of reason for a complete timing belt replacement, I'm assuming that includes parts? Normally the price would be around ~$8-900. It would be cheaper to find somebody and rent their garage for a few hours, it's not a very hard thing to replace
