Latest project on the car (pics)
Looks really good, man. I've been considering doing this to my car, but I don't want it nearly as dark as that. I want smoked, but still relatively stock looking, if that makes sense.
How dark were they looking after one coat??

How dark were they looking after one coat??
kolbs_91: I know what you mean. The first coat was done very lightly to just give a base for the ensuing coats to grab onto. The first coat has to be done lightly, especially if you don't sand the lights, which I didn't do. If you want only a slight smoke, I'd do one coat on top of that, maybe a second light/fast coat afterward. The good thing is, you can reinstall the lights after about 30 minutes of drying time, since they'll be dry enough by then to move around and you can reinstall them without touching the lens. You could try it that way, and reposition them on the car after each coat until you get the desired darkness. I took a drive tonight and surprisingly, despite how dark they look, the taillights shine through very well, and the fogs are even brighter - the level of tinting I did didn't seem to block much light output at all.
30vQuattro: I'm not sure how that look would work out for me. If I did any partial tinting, I'd have left the clear reverse lens untinted and just tinted the red, but that's simply personal preference. As for the dual rear fog mod - it'll take about 5 minutes. The bulb trees behind each taillight have sockets and full powered wiring for rear fogs on each side, but only the driver's side has the required opening in the back of the housing for the bulb to go through. On my car, on the passenger side where the rear fog would be, there was only a narrow rectangular opening. I simply drilled it out with a dremel until a bulb would fit through. I bought a bulb to go into the fog socket on the passenger side tree, popped it in, and I was done. Power is already sent to the socket, so all you have to do is put a bulb in it and open up the slot in the housing to allow the bulb to pass through, and you're done.
