launching.......
I have an 01 a4 1.8tqm. I'm not one to race much or be an aggresive driver but sometimes me and my friends will play around from light to light and whatnot. I have always been afraid to launch because I don't want to mess anything up. If I try to launch everyonce in a while is there a risk of damaging anything? My friend says I should be using the awd to my advantage of launching but I'm just worried about breaking something. What do you think?
Well, the more rough you are with your car, the quicker you will wear parts down. Is doing a 3500rpm launch going to kill your car, probably not. But you should be aware that doing things like that will wear your clutch faster. If you want to do things like that, upgrade to parts that can take some abuse, ya know? But to answer your question, you car will not fall apart from a couple launches. I just wouldn't go too much until you upgrade your stuff.
If you are on a stock clutch dont expect it to last or even hold up very long. If you want to take some stress off the clutch pump your tires up to 45psi before trying to launch it. 3500 isn't really going to be high enough to launch it hard with a K03, to do taht you will need to be up in the 4k-4500 rpms.
Yup^^ gotta spool the turbo a bit.. I usually blip the throttle and get to around 45 and then sorta gently dump the clutch.. Right before the point where the clutch engages. If possible try to learn on a wet road to take some stress off of you AWD
1. bring clutch up to just below the engagement point
2. blip the the throttle a few times to 4k
3. at the start of the upswing go WOT
4. release clutch all at 1 time as you get to 4k-4500
5. be ready to shift to 2nd gear because 1st will go in a heart beat
