so my friend just got a 98 2.8 and it's in great shape. he got an extra remote and key cut for his car so we decided to program it. so we put the one that was already programmed into the ignition, and we put the one that was not programmed into the door. then we started to press buttons and turn keys to try and program it but it didn't work. can doing it wrong actually erase the coding from the key that was working? i've never heard of that happening. i also used vag com to do the remote windows, one touch unlock and the autolock at 15+mph. the original coding was 16140 and after the math i ended up with 16232 which i believe is right unless i'm going dumb. also, his button on the driver's door won't unlock the doors afterwards either. the button locks but won't unlock. the locks work fine using the key in the door method though. i'm totally stumped about this. i have the DIY from audiworld but the fact that not even the button on the door works really throws me off. hopefully somebody can help TIA

 

well, did the button on the door not work from the beggining? i mean before you tryed to program the key? or vagged it?

 

Yeah, when i tried to reporgram my remote (after i dropped it into the lake, yeah ik it was worth a try though), it did like u say, for some reason the doors wont unlock with the toggle switch. Doesnt it start working again after you turn the car on and off and open the door a couple times, cause mine acted fine after i turn the car off and on again i think. I couldnt get mine to program either but i wasnt really expecting it to.

 

we did start the car and shut it off and open and closed the doors but nothing.

 

I'm having exactly the same problem. In fact the central locking button will work a few times after I erased all the memory locations, but will then stop working.... Central locking with key works but central unlocking doesn't and neither does locking or unlocking with remote, even after rematching the key.

The fob definately works because I can see when i push the button in vagcom and during the matching procedure it unlocks the manually locked door..... but does nothing after that.


I hope someone can suggest something that can help both of us cos I really don't feel like going to the stealers
