So I went to the dealer and they told me they could only sell me the entire carrier for about 120$...Called two other dealers in the area, same story. On my way back I drove by a little audi/vw garage that I had never gone into before. I decided to stop and ask the guy what he thought and turns out he had some in stock! Sold me a bag with 4 slide pins, 4 rubber thingies and the grease needed for 20 bucks! They are made by TRW. Anyways he just gained himself a happy customer, going to install this stuff now.

So I just finished up with the rear. Here are some pics:

Left side was a real bitch, once I got both slide pins out (torched) I cleaned out the carrier, greased up the new pins but the worst part is getting that damn boot over the pin and the carrier! Anyways I managed to get it. Luckily the right side was in pretty good shape and neither slide pin needed to be changed.

Anyways im off to do the front now.

Alright so I just finished the front!

Just took the car for a spin and other than some nasty smell from breaking everything in it all seems to working perfectly.

Hiwords, yea that is my calliper resting tool, very high tech :P

As for the painting of the callipers, well it was originally part of the plan but this took so much longer because of my fucked up rear carrier that I ran out of steam lol, another time.

Thank you to everyone for their help on this, my car is once again safe to drive.

So I thought my brake problems were done for a while but it would seem that these brakes like me too much...

When I was doing the install yesterday the front right calliper was in pretty bad shape and it took a lot of force to push the piston back in. (by a LOT I mean like i had to put an extension on the handle of my clamp to get enough torque to twist it). Now I naively thought the calliper would be fine but it is apparent now that it is not. When driving around last night the calliper was seizing up intermittently. If I were to brake pretty hard, after that the calliper would be stuck and not unstick for a long time. It got to the point where I didnt realize it was stuck and there was smoke coming from the front right wheel area...so I pulled over lol.

This morning I drove the car around to see what the situation was, at first everything seemed fine like yesterday, but once again after I braked slightly more aggressively the front right calliper seized up again and it was like I was braking all the time -_-

Now do I need to get a new calliper or is there a way to fix these things? Looks like it will run me 150-200$ if I need a new one...

Any comments or ideas?

Thanks

It should only be a few bucks to try and rebuild it, I would try that first. Once you get to ripping it apart and you find some kind of internal damage or something that you can't fix, then I would replace. But, you'd only be out like 5 bucks for the build kit.

Good idea. I just looked on the Canadian website I order from and I could get the kit for 9$. What exactly does it entail? Basically take the piston out, re-grease it and then put the new boot on?
