Default Manual Transmission - Neutral or In Gear? Sensor?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is some sort of sensor that can tell if my manual transmission car is either in NEUTRAL or IN GEAR?

I don't think there would be (as it's manual) but its worth asking..

Just thinking about a remote start system for my car and was wondering if there was a sensor or something so that I could make sure it's in Neutral before the remote starter starts the car.

Cheers!

I thought that it wouldn't as there wouldn't be a need for it on a manual. Maybe I can make one up. Who knows.. something to think about anyways..

There's a safety switch that should be located on the clutch pedal arm. When you push in the clutch, the switch is closed and this allows the car to start. When the clutch is not pushed in, the switch is open and you cannot start the car. You'll need to bypass this switch so that the car can start without pushing in the clutch. That should be the only thing you need to worry about.

I have a 98.5 A4q 2.8 but don't have this cluch safety switch.

I read a few other posts about this and it seems like it's just UK spec cars that don't have this feature.

Basically I can start my car without pressing the clutch down already. So I guess that helps as I won't need to bypass that!

But I don't want my car driving off by itself, so wondered if I could make some positional sensor for the gear stick or something. Don't know! It will need more thought...

you could just get in a habit of leaving the car in neutral and only using the handbrake when parking... this would stop the car from "driving off by itself"

My last car didnt had the clutch switch(by choice)...i never left the car in gear when it was off. I had a good hand break system.
