mileage wont light up
Hi I wonder if someone can help, I have just bought myself a nice low mileage audi 1996 1.6 A4 (Well it would be if I could see the mileage lol).
And the lights work ok on the dash but I cant see the mileage, is it possible that there is a bulb I could change behind the dashboard.
Also can I get the clocks (dashboard) out to do the repair without removing the steering wheel.

Hi vince70,
There is a bulb behind the dashboard that's probably broken.
In order to get the clocks out you have to:
1. lower the steering wheel at it's minimum
2. take the "U" shape plastic thing that you can see on top of the steering wheel, where it meets with the dashboard and you will see 2 bolts
3. remove the bolts, force them if you have to
4. pool the steering wheel towards you as much as possible so that you can remove the clocks easier
5. take out the left side of the clocks a little bit, so that you can get to the back and take the left connector out. there is a safety latch that you can take out with a long thin screw driver by lifting it up
6. do the same with the connector on the right
7. take the dashboard out and you can see the light bulbs
From my own experience I say that you should buy 15 light bulbs and simply replace all of them once because it happened to me to have all the light bulbs damaged when I tried to remove the dashboard, I even wrote about this on the forum because my dashboard was suddenly dark without even removing the connectors.
It's very important to protect the upper side of the steering wheel, where the "U" shape plastic thing comes, because it can get damaged by the dashboard when taking it out.
Good luck.
