Default More newbie questions

I've had my B5 A4 for two weeks now. Timing belt and water pump are now replaced. I didn't like the thermostat quality but other than that all looked good. Valve covers do not seem to be weeping (102K) so I didn't touch them.
Breather hose broke in several places when I cleaned the PCV valve and hoses out. I've fixed it with heat shrink tubing for now but I will replace soon.

1 How can I tell if my black seats are leather or not? Car is 2001 Quattro with V6. They look like leather but some some substitutes are so good they can be misleading. Good products for taking care of them ??

2 How can I upgrade the low beams? Pattern seems ok but they seem a bit weak but lenses are good and clear. My other cars have ecodes.

3 How can I reset the OBC without disconnecting the battery?

4 Is it normal for the clutch to come in close to the top of the pedal travel?
Coming from tdi cars I find it quite tricky as the engine revs so freely.

5 When I shut the car off I hear the electric cooling fan whining down so it must be working hard. Is that normal? Viscous clutch on the mechanical fan kaputt maybe?

6 Radio shows "Safe" since I disconnected the battery. Do I need to go to a dealer to get a code or is there another way? I find nothing in the book.

Thanks, Steve

1. It's a v6 so should all be legit leather unless the seats are not original.
4. Yea the clutch always releases near the top. Real pain in the *** to learn on let me tell you.
5. I always here my fan wind down. Don't think it's unusual.

If your radio code is not in the book, you have one of two or three options. Try to find someone who can get you the code without going to a dealer (good luck. Or, go to a dealer. Call your local Audi/VW dealer and see what they'd want for it.

Some dealers charge a lot, and it'd be cheaper to just get a new one that comes with the code
