Default My '99 2.8L Q-Tip A4

Just got it home yesterday; still have to get it registered, running around with a temp now. Got it for a little over $5800 out the door. I've already got a little over 100 miles on it and so far I love the car.

It's got a tiny coolant leak, and an even smaller oil leak I need to check out. Not worried about it as I'm sure the shop I bought the car from, Competition Imports in Newport, will take care of it. Just means another drive to RI after Christmas.

Here it is in full 4x4 status. Thinking about upgrading to H&R sports with Bilsteins to improve the stance a bit. I'm more interested in handling and practicality than just lowering it. As it is it handles as good as the '05 Impreza 2.5RS I was driving, just a little smoother over bumps. I need to remove the black line decal, I think ruins the lines of the car. The cheapo fogs should go too, they were gorilla glued in (fvcking hacks).

Edit: I just noticed how I typed the title, I think I just gave the car it's new name. Q-Tip. Nice.

I wish my car was white sometimes. the little oval shaped audi logo on the fender, is it only on one side? that's a 96-98.0 thing. I guess the fender was replaced at some time?

Wanna trade? Honestly I would have rather had black or blue, but the white is ok.

Good catch; I didn't know those weren't on the '99s. I knew the car had a minor accident history, now I know what. Still, I think the car looks good for being 11 years old.

Here's a list of things I'm planning on doing with the car. I'll be picking up the parts over time, trying to catch deals and then do as much of the work as possible all at once to limit the amount of times I have to tear the car apart. This will be a daily driver; right now I rack up over 100 miles a day commuting so reliability is a high priority. If you guys know of better deals on better parts from other sites let me know.

From ECSTuning:

OEM 312mm brake kit - $250
NGK Plugs + wires - $170
Bilstein shocks front/rear - $538
H&R Springs (Sport or race?) - $225

From PureMS:

Bilstein control arm kit - $450
__

New fob
Cover/paint the satin woodgrain
Upgrade deck and rear speakers (fronts are ok for now)
Summer wheels and tires - thinking 17"s
Black line decal delete
New floormats

I'm ok with the V6 as is since I haven't seen anything I can do cheaply to give any meaningful increase in power. I'm more interested in longevity and handling. Way down the road I might consider a PES G2 kit.

Nice list you have there! Can I save you some money though?

For the big brake kit (BBK), you can save $20+. ECS has nice slotted rotors on sale right now:

You can get the caliper carriers really cheap with free shipping from MJM Autohaus:

For control arms, many here including myself went with the FCP Groton control arm kit and have had great success with it. You can get this for $196 on Ebay:

Not sure you need to spend that much on spark plugs and wires...

Hey thanks, thats exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for.

I thought standard plain face rotors were actually better than slotted for street use? Looks like it is cheaper to buy the carriers and rotors separate though, thanks.

Yes, according to wikipedia Audi came out with the DOHC 30V engine for the A4 mid 1997. It was worth 18bhp over the SOHC 12V engine.

Got pics? I haven't seen too many white A4's around here.

you should shop around for the struts and springs. I got a brand new pair of front bilstein struts on ebay for around $150 so you could probably find new rears for around the same price. or you could save a lot and buy used. for that price you could even get a decent set of coilovers. st is having a sale I think for around $700 for the whole set which seems like an awesome price for good quality
ecs also has a bunch of floor mats on good sales included brown/tannish ("clay") rubber b5 mats for eight bucks
I think you should definitely look into upgrading your headlights to facelift/depo one piece, makes the car look a lot newer
