my car is a magnet for hit and runs
yeah so second day i get back to south florida, im picking up a friend of mine from Century Village. As the name implies its a neighborhood for old people. I'm driving down one of the roads going 40mph (the speed limit) and this 100 year old douchebag pulls out right in front of me. I was probly 10-15 feet from his car, so i swerved out of his way, wound up in the grass, tried swerving back onto the road, but ended up doing a 360 right into a big *** tree at ~30mph. By the time i get out of my car, there is no other car in sight. There was an old lady walking but apparently she forgot her glasses at home and couldn't catch the license plate number. God i love old people.
So my s4 front bumper was ripped in half, i damaged my hood, passenger front fender, rear drivers side door, rear drivers side fender, completely f'ed up my rear bumper, trunk is the most damaged, and shattered a corner light in the front. Not to mention some bumper support bolts and plastic pieces on the radiator and headlights which snapped in half, messed up the fmic a bit, and i got a coolant leak somewhere (after just putting brand new g12 in it 3 days prior[:@]) and im not even sure if i've found everything yet.
so now i gotta start repairing things. i have a bumper repair kit for abs plastic so im gona attempt to repair my back bumper and paint it. and then im gona see what i can do to the rest of the body to fix it. The trunk is a bitch tho. the spot where its dented is covered by a piece of metal so i cant pound it back in. Probly gona have to cut and reweld it, but then i got to thinking and decided i might just cut it and leave it out. I figure its only for support, and since my trunk is already fvcked, its not gona matter much. Im getting a cf euro trunk in the future anyways. And this can remove a bit of weight. Im also removing the whole window assemblies out of the rear doors. My passenger side one broke cuz the bottom plastic pulley shattered and sheared the wire (second time this has happened), so im just removing both for some more weight reduction, and also removing the back seat and building a custom wood and fiberglass piece to go in its place. Then i'll throw some bench cushion down in case i ever need to put people in my back seat.
This is all gona be a hell of a project, and im dead broke. But it should be interesting, im doing basic maintenance for all my neighbors cars for some extra cash. I'll take some pictures when i go over and start work on the car. But all in all, i think my engine isn't gona see any more work to it for a while. Cause i can't live driving a ghetto *** car.

Jeezus, that sucks. I've been in that situation before too - got hit making a left on a green arrow across a divided highway. 92 year old woman, just released from the hospital, was driving up the wrong direction (toward oncoming traffic) on the other side of the divider and hit me in the driver's quarter panel as I was crossing the opposing lanes. She was lost and disoriented, thought she was in Watkins Glen (her hometown, about 85 miles away) and couldn't figure out why it looked different.
Maybe it's an offensive thought, but after a reasonable age, they really need to start requiring recertification via road tests for people to be sure their facilities haven't degraded beyond what is necessary for safe driving.
Hope your rebuild comes out well, and make sure to keep posting update pics.

Damn dude that sucks. Hope you can get it all back together soon.
I agree w/ you Upstate 9 out of 10 fatal accidents in my hometown are caused by elderly drivers who probably should've had their DL taken years before.

dude i agree about the licensing thing. sometimes people just aren't capable of driving anymore because of medical conditions, degraded reactions and senses, etc. chaos that really sucks. did you not even bother calling your insurance company? i guess they wouldn't have even touched that without a license plate number. i would have parked by that complex the old man pulled out of and waited for him to come back, then got his plate number and filed a claim against him.
What i hate the most is when really old people say that they're such great drivers because they've had their licenses for a long time. Well guess what, just because you have been doing something for years DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN YOU'RE ANY GOOD AT IT.
Especially when your sensory acuity and motor skills are slowly eroding away and you are gradually succumbing to dementia brought on by necrosis of your frontal lobes.

Not sure about where you are, but here in NY, you'd probably not be covered in that accident for one simple rule - you left your lane while driving. As screwed up as that is, your insurance (at least here) does not have to cover anything that happens if you're not in your lane on the road. If you hit a deer head-on, they'll cover you. Leave the lane while swerving to avoid the deer, hit something else, and you're on your own.
