Default Need help please

So first off I have 98 Audi Quattro sport package 5spd
and the problem I’m having is that the car starts the rpm’s jump to about 2k then drop immediately and dies not too sure what to try I have no codes even with a vag com I thought maf but here is the wierd part I unplugged the maf and the car doesn’t start at all just cranks but my understanding the car should start just would run a little rough and get crappy gas mileage and if I give it a little gas it will jump to 2k and drop to almost dying but then jumps back to 2k and repeat and if I give it a lot of gas like to get it to go over 4K it kinda runs better but not a whole lot

Is this a new your for you or have already had it and just want it fixed? Reason I ask is if it’s new or regardless new car or exisiting I would start by replacing the following assuming you know or haven’t done these yourself.

rpm issues can be caused by many different sensors on the car and for good measure especially if you intend to keep the car or haven't changed the following, I recommend you do so:

coolant temp sensor (know for many hard start and idle issues)
fuel pressure regulator (known for many hesitation issues)
o2 sensor (known for many idle, rpm and bad mileage issues)
crank position sensor (known for stalling and hard starts especially when car is already warm)
Maf sensor (as you have stated can cause idle, rpm and stall issues)
Spark plugs (know for hesitation, misfires and generally rough running engine)
Clean Air filter or pod filter (you will be surprised what kind of hesitation issues this can resolve and overall make you car feel much smoother)

everything other than the maf sensor can be purchased for about $200-300 or so give or take and can easily be replaced yourself to save for labour costs.

at worst if these still don’t fix your issue you can at least rest assured known you have swapped out literally the main sensors on the car and this wouldn’t hurt if you intend on keeping it.

as for the maf I would see if you have any friend or one you can try and fit in just to see if it fixes it right away before purchasing one as these can be a little more pricey.

let me know how you go and if you try and replace some of the sensors.

Regards,
George

so I have it running I found a vacuum tee under the intake the was destroyed and I replaced the tee and the three lines going to it and now it will stay running but it jumps rpm still from 4-500 up to 1500ish and still have not throttle control like if I give it some gas it’ll go up but the drop and go back up

Hello, thanks for the suggestion. I am glad I have found your post. I was searching for it for my best friend who was always there to help me whenever I need his help. The last time he shared edu birdie website with me because I asked him to help me in searching for a safe site through which I can hire an essay writer. Now, he asked me to help him in searching for the problem solution regarding his car.

Try unplugging the MAF and see if the idle evens out. If it does then the MAF is bad. Get an OEM replacement. Get a known good used one if you can as they are not cheap new. Ones from a Mark 3 Jetta or Golf will work also.
