Newbie questions-disconnected items
I recently bought a 2000 1.8 with ATW engine, and just got done with the timing belt/water pump/t-stat/belts change. The car hasn't been maintained well, so I'm working through some issues before completely buttoning it back up.
The car is still on stands to do suspension/bearings, and it appears to run fine, but there are a few things I just noticed. I've done some searches, and rather than finding too little info, it's too much, and hard to wade through. Maybe a more experienced hand can sort all this out a bit?
Problem #1) Lots of oil over time has come down the front of the turbo inlet hose. It's really dirty and cruddy and oily. Is there something coming from the turbo, or is this some other leak that comes down the front of that tube?
Problem #2) I have what I think is the vac hose that goes to the N249 valve hanging from the inlet manifold. Exactly where does this hose connect? The diagram really doesn't say.
Problem #3) The abs unit is disconnected (probably has failed). Stupid question, but do you have to move the power steering tank to get the plug retainer out and in? Looks like it.
Any answers appreciated.

Answering my own questions: the vac hose goes in horizontally under the intake. Best to do this at night when its easier for a light to show the nipple. As far as I can tell, you do have to move the reservoir to get there clip on for the abs.
I still haven't heard an answer for the oil on the inlet hose

oil may be coming from the pcv system....a LITTLE oil coming down the inlet hose is 'normal'...so over time, never been cleaned etc...it may just be residue.....but, on a side note, have you checked compression?
I've heard of some guys installing a catch can in-between to catch that oil...and then clean the catch can every now and then....

Here's something I found searching the interWeb for ya on another site as far as routing a catch can....
Block Breather 'TO' 3/4" hose 'TO' catch can 'TO' 3/4" hose around back of head 'TO' pancake valve 'TO' turbo inlet pipe.
