no brake lights...
Brake lights (taillights) wont light up when brakes are pressed...
The bulbs for the brakes in the taillights are fine... the fuses are fine... wtf?
the only light thats working for braking is the 3rd brake light... and the regular taillights that turn on when you switch on headlights on are also fine.
anyone know what could be causing this? another common audi wiring problem?

I was going to say fuze, but you already covered that... hmmm, that's a tricky one!
I checked the schematics and it looks like all three lights share a common ground, but the third light has an extra ground. They all have a ground connection in the rear wiring harness, but the center light also has a an extra ground to trunk lid, rear left pillar. According to the schematic, the ground wire in the harness is brown. Hope this helps...

I wouldn't know without tearing into it. I'm sure if you track back from the tail lights, it should be easy to find. My guess, if you pull out the moulding and stuff on the right side of the trunk you might find it. There is a bunch of stuff back there, but be careful. If you disconnect the wiring harnesses from the control module back there, the car won't start...
