Normal Oil Temp
Hello,
What is the normal operating temperature for the 1.8?
I have noticed that my oil temp gets to about 225, then cools itself down to 200. I was pretty sure when I bought the car it was just over 175. I just want to make sure I don't have another problem coming.
Any help or insight would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Interesting, my t-stat opens at 210-215 degrees Fahrenheit, my oil temp runs constant around there, plus or minus depending on ambient temp. Runs great at this temp, never overheated and I live in AZ for now.
This is on my 99.5 A4 I still have. EDIT: and you should have no problems with the oil operating at 225, its normal.

Oh well yeh my 160f 170f temp is from it being like 45 degrees and breezy outside so I am not surprised it is that low. In august now that I think about it, it would get as high as 230. Of course thats 102f direct sunlight
Hello,
I am starting to get a bit concerned. Yesterday I was driving around town and the oil temp got to about 225. It never got higher than that, but I am concerned that the car is running too hot. The engine feels really hot when I shut it off. Could this be a sign of a problem? Is there a way to get the oil to run cooler? When I first bought the car about 3 weeks ago it was running around 180. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
