Hey guys, some of you might know me from posting on other sections. I just picked up an S4 last friday so definitely excited to join the S club here.

Coming from a 12v 2.8 the running oil temp would normally be right around 200 or so, but rarely venturing over 225.

In the S4 it seems that the normal running oil temp is much higher, mine stays just under 250. I just wanted to know if this was normal? This is just cruising around, no WOT running or anything.

I searched and came up with nothing so sorry if this has already been answered.

Yup, that is normal. If you put a premium oil in it, you will be between 225-250.

Mine with the RS4 OCK runs spot on 200 all the time.

 

Ok good, I've been using mobil 1, 0 W 40 fully synthetic for the A4. Is that recommended for the S?

 

it is what Mobil says is good for it. thats what i run as well. only because i haven't upgraded to amsoil, or something like that.

Mine runs spot on 200 degrees city, highway, sitting in traffic. Takes a while to heat up too, I drive it easy till it does.

 

Wait, so what's normal then?You must have an RS4 cooler too then, huh Scott?

 

my car runs at 200 rarely going above and i have no aftermarket oil coolers or anything even when my car was bone stock it rarely would go above 200. While ive had my car it has never been to 250.

 

mine is stock and sits at 200 to 225.
