Bought a '96 110 Tdi FWD with a clutch problem.
It won't go into a gear except when in neutral with the engine switched off. When ticking over it just refuses to engage a gear. Can start it in any gear and it will drive and put my foot on the brake and the car stops but doesn't stall the engine.....what could it be and would it be worth fixing?

Try pushing on the clutch multiple time before you put it in gear from neutral with the car started.
If that works I would check the master cylinder And go frome there

 

nope.. tried the pedal numerous times. Was told maybe a pressure plate fault

 

My 300ZX failed that way. It was a pressure plate failure.

 

Just sold it to a fella for spares for his own '95 model. Seems he couldn't get the control module for the central locking in any scrap yards. So bought the whole car
