Which Performance Part to Add?

Which Performance Part to Add?
Hello to all. As you can see, I'm new to these forums.
I just bought a 2001 Audi A4 1.8ta month ago.
I was thinking of installing a intercooler and a cold air intakebut I don't know if that's the best first update. Will it increase my hp by alot or not.
Also what is the best thing to do to decrease the turbo lag.

RE: Which Performance Part to Add?
That wouldn't be turbo lag then. The lag is when there's a delay between hitting the gas and the boost hitting. As cincy said, the 1.8T is about as lagless as a turbo engine will get. Go to AutoZone and have them scan your car's ECU for codes - you may have a latent code in there that isn't triggering a check-engine light. If there is, post it here in reply and we can try to work you through it.

RE: Which Performance Part to Add?
after market intakes do not do a whole lot unless you are BT = Big Turbo so that would not be a first mod that I would consider. Your intercooler also has to be considered because you don't want to waste money. If you pick an intercooler that works well with your current set-up, (stock) and then decide to go BT you may have to do it again. And if you decide to go with a bigger intercooler to handle your future needs, it may cost you some performance in the short term. I would consider chipping the car and maybe getting an aftermarket exhaust first and then move on to some of the other items.
But as suggested, you need to first find out what's wrong with your car before you start modding. One of the most important first things that you can buy for your car, especially for an Audi that you intend to mod, is a Rosstech Vag-Com cable.

Dollar for dollar, I have to say diode mod with a boost guage and manual boost controller. Best mod for the money I've ever had! Check out cincytt's post on it. Search on 'cheap power'.
And btw - thank you cincy! I've had mine modded for a few months now, and it is a different car!
