Piano Black Interior Trim?
I been looking at replacing the wood with either the piano black or aluminum dash and door trim, only found 1 site that was wanting like $1800 for it, anyone have any leads that are a little less cost effective (cheaper)?
Also thinking of getting a second car, an Avant from either 2001 or 2004 but.....? Does the 1.8T have enough horse to move that big a car or is it a wise choice to just go big V8?

pm upstatenya4. he's in the process of doing the piece around the HU in piano black. he's got the rest of the wood in silver though, it looks sweet. just paint it yourself because you'll have to take everything apart anyways to install the kit vs painting them. if you're looking for a wagon, get a 2.7t. i'm not 100% sure if they made this but you may be able to find an a6 wagon with a 6sp. that would be awesome lol
I'm on the verge of changing my interior too...I wanted something similar but was thinking of a kind of polished-gunmetal-type of look. I also want to adjust to accommodate a double DIN head unit. Definitely want to change all of the wood tho, I have the matte finish! Anyone of any sites with black marble-ish trims or even a piano black one to look at?
Take a look in my sig below - I took my matte finish wood out last year and painted it all metallic silver to match my car's exterior. I did the section around the head unit and climate controls in silver then, but lately it's started to look a little chintzy to me, so as Hiwords said, I'm redoing that center piece in piano black.
So far I have pulled it out, sanded and primed it, and done two coats of gloss black on it. I didn't have time to finish everything at that point, so I put it back into the car to drive with over the weekend. This week I'll be removing it again, doing another two coats of gloss black, wet-sanding it with 2000 grit paper, and then doing several coats of clear over it, with a final wet-sand of the last clearcoat layer. Then after a few days' curing time, I'll hit it with a mild rubbing compound to buff it out for the final look. It takes a long time to do all this, but the end result will be worth it.
Here's a quick shot of it as it currently sits (two coats of gloss black), reinstalled in the car for the weekend. It has a matte finish right now but that'll change once the rest of the work is done. And I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I love the contrast of the silver beltline trim and the black center panel. I decided against doing piano black for all of the trim though - my car has a black interior and I like the silver to break it up a little. All black, even in high-gloss piano black, would be too much monotony for me.

Once I do the rest of the work, I'll put up more pics of it completed - it should have an appearance similar to a black mirror when it's done

I've been wanting to do the same, but our B5 interiors are more of a blue, rather than a black. B6's are true black, so a piano black will contrast our dashes and make them appear blue rather than black. CF looks the best imo.
And as for the Avant, they make the Allroad which come in a 2.7t tip or 6mt from 01 til 02/03 I think, then they have the 4.2 Allroad which is only tip. 99-04 A6 3.0 Avants come in tip but don't move as quick. As for the 1.8t Avant, stock will be just like a sedan (weight isn't a HUGE difference). But there are plenty of BAT avants running bored internals with at least a 2871r. A couple in AZ got a 3076r I believe. So they'll easily spank most sedans out there. If I was to find a USP 6MT Avant I'd jump on it, but they're few and far inbetween. Also keep an eye out or the S6 Avant or an S4. Avants are a chronic disease, you'll hate or dislike em at first, then you'll itch to own one

I finished the piano black center panel in my car yesterday. Here's a link to the post with a few completed pics:
