Possible Flywheel or clutch issue?
Id have to agree that the flywheel is misbalanced in your case. Did you align the clutch disc properly? **** buying an alignment tool, I always use the biggest deep socket I can fit in there.
I know plenty A4 owners that have 12-15 lbs flywheels that have a good amount of gear rattle. Even I had plenty of gear rattle with a Spec 15 lbs steel flywheel. It always caught my attention every single time I went to LACR to drag race and I could hear it like a can of ball bearings when sitting next to the curb to get thru the main gate.
South Bend did plenty of testing when they went to make their A4 1.8t flywheel, they found that anything below 20 lbs had gear rattle and the lighter the flywheel got the more the gear rattle increased. Nearly all of the people that buy the CM 228mm 15 lbs steel flywheel report they have some gear rattle. Nearly all of the people that get the CM 240mm kit with the 20 lbs steel flywheel report they have no gear rattle even with the AC on full.
Beau - Once the transmission is in place the disk is centered, this is because the input shaft MUST go into the center of the crank flange where the pilot bearing is located.
I used to install clutch kits on my car without a alignement tool all the time, just lined it up by eye. The alignement tool just makes it easier to get the center of the spline lined up with the pilot bearing. Also helps you hold the disk in place as you lift the PP up to bolt in to the flywheel.

Alright so i got under the car and looked through the little eyelids of the bellhousing and saw that there was a little tiny gap behind the flywheel and i could see part of the bolt maybe 1/8" so im thinking the bolts are backing themselves out and the flywheel is loose clapping back against things. What it sounds like. So i called and said that the stage 3 6 puck was too much for the car and would like the stage 2 and they said that is fine. but then they told me the pressure plate and flywheel are both the same? dunno if thats possible but also asking if a full face carbon kevlar clutch disk will be ideal for everyday driving. I appreciate the help guys.
Now if your flywheel to crank bolts are backing out, it would def be bad and making noises. Not only because the flywheel itself is loose, but the bolt heads may be hitting the clutch disc, depending on how "backed out" the bolts are. Tear it apart and see whats up is the only thing you can do.
Alright sooo. this is gonna be a good story. the night this happened I had ran over a dead coyote that was already dead on the road i recommend the 3 second following distance now lol but then it started making the noise after that and i though theres no way possible that it messed with my flywheel or anything. but i got under there and saw that it had bent a cross member bar up into my downpipe..... took it off and the noise is gone. I have no idea how it could make that noise but im just glad i don't have to drop the tranny again thanks for the input guys
