Projector headlight question
Hey there. I am looking to install some projector headlights into my 98 1.8t. My questions are, will they simply install straight into the old spot, or will I have to do any trimming to fit them in there? And, Will i need to use hid's with them, or just the stock bulbs?
if you get one-piece you'll have to trim, 2 piece you shouldnt have to.
you can use either bulbs but some projectors are made out of plastic that will melt with hid's.
I just posted some pics of one pieces i got

also, if you search "for headlights" there are a million different threads about what you have to do and how to do it

You don't have to get HID bulbs but they are much better than stock.

I'm not really sure what you mean by time to charge but if you mean the time from when you turn on the light to when they are giving their full output, mine only take like 5 seconds. there is no real disadvantage that i have encountered from having hids other than blinding people when i had them in stock housings (and now also with the projectors since i am having trouble adjusting my new headlights)
I got fairly cheap hids on ebay and have had them for a year+ and they are much brighter than stock which in my opinion is reason enough to get them especially with projectors. i figure the brightness helps them look better as well, with mine I see the sharp cutoff line that probably wouldnt be as obvious with stock lights.
heres some stuff to the benefits of hids, there are a bunch of sites about them

im just worried about if i ever need to flash my beams in order to warn someone. my fathers car has them and i do like them, just wondering what you guys thought. there isnt anything i can screw up badly if i trim is there?
Thanks for all of your help
Thanks for all of your help
If you flash with your high beams, the lows stay on so theres no issue (same if you just leave the high beams on).. If you flash with the low beams thats OK too since after they are running there is no startup time for them, its instant. Even when they are cold they take very little time to warm up you barley notice it, takes like 5 seconds max and there is still light being put out.
They are brighter for the driver, but I still find them easier on the eyes as an oncoming cars AS LONG AS THEY ARE AIMED right.
