No. The ECU will not adapt in any way to you running a BOV instead of DV.

The computer is delivering the correct fuel for the amount of air that it believes will be entering the motor, the BOV then releases a portion of that air. The ECU does not compensate for this, thus you will run rich.

You can't really make blanket statements about using a BOV. The important thing is to get a valve or adjust your BOV so that it's closed at idle. You'll still run a little rich between shifts (on a manual trans car) but nothing dangerous and not enough to notice or cause a fault or cel. I have a splitter that Forge gave me that I run in full recirc. I don't like the way BOV's sound, myself.

i ran a ssqv on my car for a long time. also have ran a splitter, 004 and now have an 007.

the only issues i had with the ssqv was it wasnt closed fully at idle so the car would constantly rev when u come to a stop. problem was fixed with a stiffer spring.

i can say yeah it made my gas mileage horible, in a day i would be able to burn 1/4 of a tank alone. mostly cause the noise it made. gotta love the flutter. but it never grew on me so i went back to my 007. which i can still kinda hear cause i have an intake.

If you vent into the atmosphere, you WILL run rich. You gas mileage will decrease and you are going to kill your cat. There is absolutely no benefit for you to vent into the atmosphere with your set-up and tune...none. Technically, our computer can "handle" a BOV venting atmospherically, and by that I mean that it won't cause your car to blow up but it can and will cause problems unless you have the tune for it.

i hope your not talking to me. because im fully aware of this. be more specific on who your talking to.


and i dont think you can tune in a BOV for the stock turbo, the car was just not made for a bov. i know the b6 is, but the b5 no. not unless you have a BT setup that requires one.

Whats the effect of turning your DV backwards? My friend did it on his Jetta so now it has a high pitch squeek/whistle sound instead of the pssh sound. Does that ruin the DV or anything else? Curious because his jetta runs just fine with it in their backwards, it just makes a different sound obviously when it blows off.

Putting a stock dv in reverse puts the rubber diaphragm under more stress.
