You have a 058 block so you have an externalpump, the newer 00+ have internal pumps. just replace that and put everything to stock. You already have the best head made by audi/vw so no point in messing with it w/o trying to make big power. Messing with it can loss power and drivability.

From the sounds of that statement, you seem to be of the mind to do a chip, exhaust work, and maybe w/m injection - at the most, maybe a K04 - and call it a day on power. If that's the case, don't bother with the headwork - just get the replacement valves, reassemble the engine, do your mods as listed here, and enjoy the car.

I wont mention the head gasket replacement which is required for the turbo cough and I wont mention how it reduces the compression cough

Head gasket replacement for something like a K04? Or am I missing something? He's already doing the head gasket anyhow and I doubted he was going to use a thicker one for lower compression in preparation for a larger turbo that he doesn't sound like he's going to do anyhow. I wasn't trying to imply reusing the same gasket. Maybe I didn't read the thread closely enough...?

No reason to run a lower cr gasket. They are worse than stock and the stock compression is great for the engine.

What is "w/m injection" and what is a "k04"? I was planning on going stock aftermarket parts. No big money in a different turbo, unless the turbo turns out to be bad. Regarding the valves, titanium valves are better but lots of money and wont improve much if staying stock? Are the valves in the head now sodium filled? If so, that might explain why Audi valves are expensive and why aftermarket are so much cheaper?

"W/M" injection is water/methanol - it can add power as well as some detonation resistance. Your stock turbo is a K03 turbo - a K04 is a very mild upgrade (usually not worth it - if you want to upgrade for power, you'd look beyond the K04, but if you were replacing the OEM turbo on a budget or wanted near-stock feel and came across one at a good price, it might be worth it). As for the valve question, I don't know whether the OEM valves are sodium-filled or not - sorry I can't answer that one.

2000 also has the 058 block, the change was done on the 01.
