You guys used clear coat over this vinyl paint? I was doin 1200 grit wet sand on primer than I was gonna put several coats of vinyl paint wet sanding in between and be done with it. The piece was already owned by a goo gone mishap so this is more or less practice for rear bumper lower plastic piece painting. It can only get better it was at rock bottom before i started messing with it.

Ok here's what I did.

1) Had a used scruffed up shifter surround piece that was pretty much plastic and originally colour black. (My original one was too long and was the wood trim)

2) Took 600grit sand paper and sanded the **** down

3) Washed it down thoroughly

4) Bought me a glossy black rattle can paint. Bought whichever, probably multipurpose no specifically for vinyl. As long as it was glossy.

5) Sprayed evenly and let it dry for 5 minutes each time I put a new coat on.

6) Sometimes in between coats I would let it dry and so some wet sanding with a 1500 grit sheet.

7) Applied clear coat. Multiple coats as if I was spraying the colour on.

8) Buffed it out for a nice shiny piano black finish.
