yeah, anything that weighs 3500 lbs wont stop on a dime with little traction,

low kinetic friction

Whomever wants to call the BS flag may do so but i cruise the country roads at 65mph if snow is fresh and no other cars around with 30% tread on high perf all season Continentals. But if i see other cars around i bring it to 45-50 and it feels much safer. Stop signs i slow down a long way before. There are a lot of ppl with AWD that i see in the ditches.

i agree with all of you. i didn't try to drive any faster because i knew the car would just slide if i hit the brakes. so i just coasted to the light and burned him at the light. he tried following me up my street (which is a long, gradual incline) and i don't think he made it up. It can be said that quattro is money in the snow. Obviously driving too fast isn't good. Great thread

I've gone as fast as 50 and braking is a big thing. Also other drivers. The faster you go the less time you have to react when someone does something dumb.

Hey. New to the forum. I live in Quebec. On the highway on a snowy day while I am working, I will still bring my work van (Express 1500) up to 140 Km/h(It cuts off at 160) and cruise that speed on fairly snowy roads. In the streets I do maybe 10 KM over the limit. And I am careful about stops (Both stopping and leaving from a stop, sometimes other people sail/slide through stop signs cause they cant drive in winter. In my Audi?? Not too fast maybe 140, but I probably just sprinted to that and then slacked off....I got all seasons on, and I don't give a **** if my drivetrain is a Quattro, the tires are what is touching the road. I know a lot of you are probably thinking driving 140 in snow is stupid/retarded......while it isn't preventive driving, I do drive safely (Turn signals, mirror checks, and not cutting lanes. ) But I have also heard that Quebec drivers are crazy...I wouldnt know I am used to it.

BTW......everyone like to think Quattro is ultimate, it IS, only if you know how it reacts, you have to know what your car is gonna do in loss of control, its not a matter of doing ONE thing in particular, you have to adapt to the situation. Hell I can drift long turns at 90 km/h with my work van in snow fairly easily, fun as hell to, not the smartest thing, but Im sure we all have our own vices in life.

In the limited snowy conditions of Colorado, in bad storms on the interstate with no other cars i have cruised 75ish and drop to 60ish for some turns... generally i have no problem driving at 5 under the posted limits... cops are dicks and apparently can ticket you for driving the limit in inclement weather...

quattro by far provides the best inclement weather handling...

I did 80 on my way up to an Audi meet and it was the heaviest snow we had yet and was still falling. If it had been long and straight w/ some better tires I think I would have been fine but it scared the **** out of me. I ended up cruising at about 50 for most of the trip since the snow was so heavy. FWD is actually much better for straight line high speed in the snow. Our cars like to kick the back out like a RWD even when your already moving.

I have a fwd and I can go about 35 with no loss of traction however I choose not too because of the fact that in illinois people forget how to drive when it snows and therefore I have to ride my brakes. I really wish I had quattro. I am sure it is a blast.

For my experience I do normal speed in the heavy wet snow in real light stuff it is hard to get the job done. It is all about braking just dont do it(as in as least as possible we all have to use them sometime) use your engine to slow you down. in the turns just down shift and let that thing hang out and give her hell Quattro loves it
