I've not done any real speed in my Quattro let alone in snowy conditions (And we have LOTS of snow here).... For me, when the conditions are bad, you need to be sensible and safe on the roads......

I'm new to snow, and new to Quattro, but I like to have fun as much as the next person... So for me, the fun comes from Drifting etc at slow speeds in car parks or other open spaces, when no one is around..... I love the way the Quattro handles on the snow. Drifting and doughnutting put such a big smile on my face......

When it comes to driving on the road I'm just sensible. I have no need to impress anyone. No need to take risk's. Have your fun when its safe. Be responsible when your supposed to be..... Enjoy the Quattro when its safe to do so........

So does anyone know of a BIG BIG open space near South Haven, Michigan..... I want to drift drift drift....... (Not a WALMART car park for instance.... - Do not want any heat from the Fuzz)

Yeah that's one thing Ive noticed with my A4, downshifting is a whole lot better than braking in snow!

I do the speed limits but slow down earlier than normal for stops. Engine braking is your friend in snowing conditions. Avoid mashing your brakes, probably the worst thing you can do.

Well I live in Northern Michigan, or as i like to call it, "Hell" and we have already had 82" of snowfall and I have a Hour and 20 minute drive to work everyday. So with that being said for the most part I go way to fast for conditions all the time, i tend to average 65ish whenever I can and try not slide into anyone However I am very impressed with the quattro, it really gets the car up to speed very easily in the snow/slush/ice/sleet/rain that I usually drive in.

quattro by far provides the best inclement weather handling...
Yeah, it's called "too fast for conditions" and kids in my area get nailed all the time. It's a safety measure because some people think it's OK to do 95 when the road is a sheet of ice.

i got out the other night to play in the 4 inches we had here in central pa.
ive got quattro, and full blown snow tires....my aunt called me and told me she barely made it up the hill past my house....CHALLENGE!!!

psh...not...i started at my house and hammered it, got a little slippage, and by the time i looked down i was doing 70....from a standstill, and she barely made it up in her jetta.
(dont worry, i live in the middle of no-where, there we NO OTHER cars ANYWHERE...lol)
after that i took it to the biggest parking lot in the area, and tried to drift......no go!
apparently, there is too much traction for me to get a real good drift on....

and last winter, i was coming home on the pa turnpike from philly to harrisburg the day after i got my car, and we were getting a really nasty snow storm, since the car was new to me, i started slow to get a feel for it, and very quickly got up to speed, i was cruising at just under 90 for a while (on the straights, with no other cars around)
but then i caught up to 2 idiots going side by side at like 50ish, we came to a corner, and BOTH of them slid about 15 degrees sideways at the SAME TIME, it looked so cool, but i was like OH ****!...lol.....my car never even wobbled!
QUATTRO FTW!

I bet if i put my bald 18's back on i could drift!.....LOL

bottom line.......
find somewhere safe to get a feel for the car, and YOUR abilities....its not a contest or a blanket statement, ie.....just because some of us have gone well over 80 on a straight open rd, DOES NOT mean we do it all the time, or that your car with summer tires can do the same thing......
THINK! (and then have fun!)

Last winter, I was able to maintain a steady 50 mph in thick snow on the motorway.

I've found it's a lot easier to maintain higher freeway / motorway speeds, than lower speeds in built-up areas, the braking of other cars can be a killer, and camber in turns can cause slides...

Haven't had any snow this year yet - my car's a quattro by the way.
