Default Speedo went out, gas pedal unresponsive

Posting from the side of the road.
I was driving and my speedometer went out, I can tell my speed by reading the rpms so I kept driving. All of a sudden I shifted into third and got no response from the gas pedal. I pulled off to the side and sat in idle for a bit then turned the car off, now it won't even start. It just fires up and dies again.

I've read that it could be the maf sensor but I'm new to audia and cars in general so I'm not too sure.

1998 A4 2.8

Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear that man.. Start checking fuses, check oil, coolant, look for leaks of anykind. Something disconnected, try to track it down while you wait for AAA which i hope you have. Its 50 bucks a year, tow you 80 miles 3 times, or give you gas ext.

i'm about to get AAA then, thanks for the tip

i still haven't found the root of the problem. i'll update again if/when i figure out what it is. i can't find any thread relating to getting no response and not having it rev around a certain rpm, or the part about it firing all the way up and dying so i may end up taking her in on this one.

oh well, used car problems am i right?

Defiantly look into getting AAA. Such a relief knowing i can get home for "free". My DD is a 95 civic with 250k on the shell. I drive long distance to work 80 miles both ways. You HAVE to have it. Get RV plus. tow an RV bus, the other plans are cheaper but not as good as value and they wont tow you 80 miles. get RV PLUS

I think your ECU might have went. Check the fuses. Try and scan your car with vag-com.

That be cool if you post when you figure out what happened. It always helps, so when someone else goes through this problem it will help them.
Best of luck
