Default Key fob suddenly unresponsive...

01 allroad... I only have 1 key fob. I've never had any indication of a weak battery. I can usually lock/unlock my car from 100'+ away. Then today I get nothing.

Since I have only one fob I can't check to see which is faulty... car or fob. Is there something I can check in the car? Or is there some other typical glitch I haven't heard of? Fobs suddenly un-program?

Kinda wish the fob had a little led light to indicate that it's working. TIA

Well the key works... just the remote isn't working. Today I realized that I hadn't stuck a key in a car door in about 8 years. =)

That's really weird, but the first thing I would try in mine is change the batteries and try and re-program it. The last time I changed the batteries was.... ummm... I can't remember.

The next thing I would try is someone else's fob and your key. Yours is an 01 so no immobiliser (can't really be too sure about US models). Just make sure the numbers on the fobs match, include the last Alphabetic character. Mine is 4D0.837.231A

Actually, I just remembered that the re-programming requires a key in the ignition as well as the key to lock and unlock the doors. Hopefully you have a simple copy of your key.

I actually do have the immobilizer. Wish it didn't.

I do plan on purchasing another fob with my same code on ebay. Just to have a backup.

I do have a valet key... which I think will work for reprogramming my fob. Who knows. Maybe I put something on my keys and a button was depressed all night long, killing the battery. I'll try to pick some batteries up today.

Well, fresh batteries seemed to fix it. The button must have gotten stuck or something... because they seemed to have plenty of range one day, and then zippo.

Programming the fob didn't quite go as smoothly as hoped. Now my only fob seems to be associated with seat setting 2... so whenever I unlock the car it goes to my wife's position. I'm sure I can figure out how to change that though..

Great to hear that it was just the batteries. Re-programming is not as straight forward as it reads.

Exactly! I've seen 20 different people do their best to give exact precise directions on the process... and it always seems like they're slightly different.

The instructions I had found seemed to forget the important final step about using the physical key in the door to unlock the door. (I kept reaching in the window to remove my spare key from the ignition... and that kept the process from completing.)
