well, the search bar can help you a lot but in short, Yes those springs will work fine but it's recommended that you also replace the shocks.

if you don't replace the shocks, you'll have the honor of tearing apart your suspension again to take out the broken stock shock. i would get the springs and a set of bilsten shocks and sell the stockers while they're still good

Some of that may depend on which springs he picks. I'd think that the H&R race springs, with a 2.5" drop, would definitely demolish the OEM struts. The sport springs are less extreme, and the struts may survive - they'll definitely last longer than they would with the race springs. I put S4 springs on the rear of my car this weekend, and will be installing the S4 fronts this week. After two days of driving and settling, I've gotten about an inch drop in the rear. It's not as low as I ultimately want, but with the fender gaps I had, any drop helps, and by doing this mod, I was able to get rid of my rear springs, both of which were broken (I knew of one being broken, but not the other). The H&R sport springs aren't too much more of a drop than what I'm seeing with the S4 springs (which fit directly onto the A4 struts with no modification, for those who are wondering), so he may be OK at least for a decent length of time, depending of course on the current condition of the struts, driving habits, and road surface conditions.
